ABOUT THIS BLOG

With a long family history that goes back many generations in this area it pains me to see the impact that government neglect is having on our area. The two major parties are simply not up to the job anymore. I can no longer sit back and watch this happen and have decided to run for the state seat of Cairns.

It is time we had a voice in parliament again, not puppets of faceless party machines from Canberra. By posting media releases on this blog the people of Cairns can determine if we have policies and concepts that they agree with.

I ask you to join me in ensuring that Cairns and Far North Queensland gets a fair go.

NOT ALL LEAGUE PLAYERS ARE BOOFHEADS AND THUGS

Last night I loved going to the Men of League(MOL) charity dinner. The MOL was set up to look after and support footballers and their families who have illness, injuries or fall on hard times. A great idea to look after those that never got to make the $millions playing a game they love.
The dinner was organised as a fundraiser for MOL and was attended by the PM's 13 on their way to play against PNG on Sunday. The payers were assigned tables with guests and mingled and chatted with guests and all were very approachable.
Guest speakers included Mal Meninga, Mick Crocker, Mitchell Pearce.
Most importantly was captain Nathan Hindmarsh who spoke on the theme and motivation for the tour. On their jerseys and the motto for their trip is'Violence against women is not acceptable'. Nathan spoke of the need to change thinking that violence against women is acceptable in any form, that victims do not bring it on themselves and such thinking needs to change. The figures quoted were shocking and Nathan was very committed to raising awareness on the issue and just goes to show such programs and commitment can hopefully bring change.
Along the same line it was announced that Northern Pride player and Take Pride program co-ordinator Chey Bird may be heading overseas to further his career. I wish him all the best and hope this works out for him. The work he has done off the field promoting and fostering our game throughout Far North Qld, not just Cairns, has been amazing. The media are quick to focus on the bad things, but we need to show that league players do a lot of community work and positive things for our community.
Cairns will surely be worse off when a role model like Chey Bird moves on
