ABOUT THIS BLOG

With a long family history that goes back many generations in this area it pains me to see the impact that government neglect is having on our area. The two major parties are simply not up to the job anymore. I can no longer sit back and watch this happen and have decided to run for the state seat of Cairns.

It is time we had a voice in parliament again, not puppets of faceless party machines from Canberra. By posting media releases on this blog the people of Cairns can determine if we have policies and concepts that they agree with.

I ask you to join me in ensuring that Cairns and Far North Queensland gets a fair go.

APPOINTMENT AS POLICE & EMERGENCY SERVICE SPOKESPERSON

Today I was given the honour of being the Queensland Party spokesperson for Police and Emergency Services. With my experience in these areas I look forward to the challenges ahead that this role will provide and look forward to ensuring that FNQ gets a fair share to meet our needs.

TQP Announces Darren Hunt as Police, Corrective & Emergency Services Spokesperson
Action Needed to Clean Up Queensland's breaking justice system

1 July 2011

Queensland Party Leader, Aidan McLindon, announced in Cairns today that Darren Hunt will become the party’s law and order spokesperson. Mr Hunt was formerly a Queensland police officer with 18 years of front line service fighting crime and also has experience as a parole officer. Mr Hunt has also worked with Emergency Management Queensland and is The Queensland Party’s candidate for Cairns.

“Queensland’s justice system is collapsing and the fact that more than 60% of inmates return to jail is proof that pro-active action is urgently needed," said Mr McLindon.

“Darren Hunt has spent two decades fighting criminal activity and understands intimately the problems associated with crime and rehabilitating prisoners, especially in areas outside of the south east corner. Darren is the man for this job.”

“The Queensland Party has already forced the Minister for Corrective Services to clean up the jails, something that neither the ALP nor the LNP were prepared to do. Now The Queensland Party is taking action to ensure that criminal behaviour is punished appropriately, that prisoners are properly rehabilitated and that the safety of the community is strengthened.”

Mr Hunt said that he looking forward to tackling law and order issues and cutting through political correctness to ensure that the system is cleaned up.

“I have worked as a police officer and as a parole officer so I have a very good understanding of what works to end criminal activity and what works to rehabilitate prisoners,” said Mr Hunt.

“The Queensland Party will continue to put forward strong, sensible law and order policies because that is what the community expects.”

Mr McLindon will make further announcements regarding spokespeople for the party in the coming weeks.

The Queensland Party will be unveiling a strong team of spokespeople before the next election.

“It is very important that these spokespeople know Queensland and it is no accident that the first Queensland Party spokesperson comes from Cairns. The Queensland Party is serious about ensuring that all areas of this great state are properly represented.”
