ABOUT THIS BLOG

With a long family history that goes back many generations in this area it pains me to see the impact that government neglect is having on our area. The two major parties are simply not up to the job anymore. I can no longer sit back and watch this happen and have decided to run for the state seat of Cairns.

It is time we had a voice in parliament again, not puppets of faceless party machines from Canberra. By posting media releases on this blog the people of Cairns can determine if we have policies and concepts that they agree with.

I ask you to join me in ensuring that Cairns and Far North Queensland gets a fair go.

Priorities-Put FNQ first

It is really frustrating when you hear the Labor government calling for "generational change" and long term committments blah blah blah in regards to spending on takling flood reduction measures for the Bruce Highway. It was quoted as $800 million to do the works on the Ingham section which, as Far Northerners we know, is the section that cuts us off on a regular basis as there is no way around it. It should be a priority but Labor keeps putting it off. Why????
Simple. For them they need the money in the war chest to pork barrel the electorates in South East Qld. While they talk about how important FNQ is, when it comes to taking real action all we get is lip service or the Bruce Highway would have the funding committed. Labor has demonstrated their focus is on SE Qld and always will be.
It is rather poor timing then to see two days after the roads minister makes these claims that the Premier has now decided to spend $11million on bidding for the 2018 Commonwealth games and they will spend $1billion on infrastructure on the Gold Coast for it.
I am a self confessed sports nut and know the obvious benefits that a big event like the games could have but there comes a time for priorities and surely reducing flood impacts on our roads that keep getting cut year, after year, after year is better for us than hosting the 2018 Commonwealth games.
If there's no money to fix our Highway, then there's no money for these games. I challenge the labor govt to commit the funding to upgrade the Bruce Highway in the upcoming budget and if there's money left for the games after that, go for it.
